Watford is the largest town in Hertfordshire. It has the character of the London suburb but manages to retain the old vestiges, such as the Church of St. Mary.
There are a number of activities to take part in once you are in Watford. The Watford Museum is about 10 years of local history, and is located in central Watford.
There is also the Cassiobury Park, which is the biggest and main park found in the Cassiobury District of the town. The park is a mere, 10 minutes away from the town centre, and contains a children's paddling pool, tennis courts, bowling green and a croquet lawn, so there is plenty to keep both children and adults busy, and if your simply after somewhere to relax, then the park makes a nice place to go for short walks.
Watford also hosts the Harlequin Centre, a modern large shopping complex, with 7 major stores and over 140 top names and specialist shops under one roof, including big stores such as Trewins, Marks & Spencer, WH Smith, and Virgin Megastore. The centre also has parking facilities for over 2000 cars.
The town is home of Watford FC, which made the move to Vicarage Road in 1922. The football club has been the starting club for many big name players, and the big names don't just stop at the players - their club chairman is Elton John, and the Manager is ex-England manager Graham Taylor. Over the years Watford FC has made it's way up through the divisions, and the 1999/2000 season has seen them take part in the Premier League along side other teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea. Sadly their stay in the Premiership lasted just the one year, and for the 2000/2001 season they will be back in Division 1 football.
